The Project PDF Print E-mail

The goal with The Lattice Group is to create a discussion so that young people will consider the issues of work-life conflicts in their own lives and communities and begin to think actively, and creatively, about global alternatives to the “ladder” status quo.

The traditional “corporate ladder” entails a straight upward climb. If you don’t ascend, you stagnate or descend. We think this metaphor is outdated. Instead, think of your life and your career as a lattice rather than a ladder. A latticework weaves in all directions. This means that you can keep climbing the lattice without having to go up on a pre-determined track: climb up, climb right, climb left, but always keep climbing. It means a more flexible, and a more creative, career progression.

Visit The Lattice Group website regularly and stay abreast the project’s development as we travel to the United States, Spain, France, Sweden and Russia and try to get young people talking through one-on-one interviews and organized discussion forums. We believe that open dialogue is the key to social change, and so we’re traveling to listen, learn, and record what people are talking about so that you can learn with us.

A latticework is made up of cross-sections that can grow infinitely. We want the lattice we’re building to cross national borders because we think it’s important to take into consideration how other countries may be dealing with these issues differently. We hope to begin treating the work-life conflict not as a personal problem, but as what it is: a global concern.

Because whoever you are, male or female, American or Swede, these are issues that affect you. Thankfully, they’re also issues that you can do something about by taking a proactive stance now and thinking about what you want in your own life. By being informed about your options you can make good decisions.

Start talking.
